After far too many weeks, months and even years I am thrilled, nervous and excited to be able to bring you the first song from my new album.
Perhaps more than any of my previous records, this album is a labour of love, carried out stubbornly in chilly churches and farm buildings and written hunched over the same piano that I used to write my first melodies as a child more than twenty five years ago.
Much of the content of the album is deeply personal – written as it was in the months following the sudden death of my father in 2012 – but as always I can’t resist pushing it out towards the splinter of light in the doorway and letting it communicate with the world.
This song is called Time To Ascend and is the sound of the return of hope and optimism after a period of scrabbling around in the darkness.
You can read Clash Magazine‘s premiere of the track (they reckon it is “joyous…incredibly emotive”) by clicking here, or simply press play below to hear what I have been up to all this time. I hope you like it. The album is called Youth.
